''I AM!'' CLOSES AMID COVID
The Islip Arts Council is proud to present ''I AM!'' at IAM, which marks the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment, when ten million women earned the hard-won right to vote -- the largest democratizing event in American history.
The exhibition, curated by Christine O’Malley, ran through Women’s History Month from February 1st until it prematurely closed due to the Corona Virus outbreak. It will be documented in an ''I AM!'' at IAM reflections video, produced by Seb Saga’s Video Production and Marketing, and narrated by IAC member Brianna Coccia, who describes several poignant moments in history and sacrifices made by women to attain a voice in society.
Guided through the exhibit, we are introduced to the works of twenty-seven talented women artists, members of Women Sharing Art, Inc., where their reflective work, infused with new meaning, creates a memorable collection of multimedia artwork encompassing the theme of the 19th Amendment (personal story telling, historical narratives, and interpretive compositions) depicting the sacrifices women endured to win the right to vote, and finally to proclaim, ''I AM'' a full citizen!

One hundred and forty four years after Abigail Adams wrote her concerns women finally won the right to vote, the 19th Amendment was ratified and signed into law on August 18, 1920. In celebration of the centennial of this historic event the Islip Art Museum is proud to present " I Am!" at the IAM by Women Sharing Art, Inc.
The WSA is an art collective representing thirty-five talented and skilled women artists. In response to the theme of voting rights, its impact then and now, this art collective has created a moving and powerful multi media art exhibit.
